Overview
Author of Byker Lion, Mark James and his son, Shaun approached us with the hopes of bringing the book to life. Byker Lion shares the stories of Mark’s youth growing up in Byker and is sprinkled with good old fashioned Geordie humour. Pulling out all the stops, we came up with a creative concept, built on the strong foundations of Mark’s artwork and tales.
Taking the best bits from the fifty paged book, we developed a shortened script, which was used to produce a detailed storyboard. Our Senior Animator spent over 5 weeks bringing Byker Lion to life in an 8 minute animation. The animation we created shares the stories, character and humour of the Byker Lion himself, Mark James.
We worked closely with JAC media to ensure this film got the audience it deserved. The story of the Byker Lion appeared on both Look North and the Sue Sweeney show on BBC Radio Newcastle. We even hosted the ‘Geordie World Premiere’ at Newcastle Sixth Form College lecture theatre.
